More ways to move.

Every Gentle Barre class draws on the same handful of ideas, from classical ballet to creative movement. How they come together depends on the dancers in the room.

Classical Ballet

Pliés, tendus, port de bras, and the positions of the feet and arms. We teach real ballet vocabulary with clear demonstration, steady counts, and plenty of repetition, building musicality, coordination, and awareness of the body in space.

Creative Movement

Moving like the wind, a falling leaf, a rolling wave. Creative movement invites dancers to explore rhythm and shape through imagination, with no single correct way to do it.

Sensory Awareness

Music volume, lighting, textures, props, and space all shape how a class feels. We plan transitions carefully, offer sensory materials with intention, and keep a calm space available whenever a dancer needs it.

Routine

A familiar opening, a recognizable order of activities, and a consistent goodbye. Predictable structure helps many dancers feel settled enough to try something new.

Individualized Pacing

Some dancers want to repeat a step many times; others want to watch first. We adapt the pace, the length of each activity, and the way instructions are given, so each child, whether autistic, neurodivergent, or simply new to dance, can take part in a way that works for them.

Connection

Small groups mean instructors know each dancer. Encouragement is specific, attention is steady, and dancers learn alongside one another.

Imagination

Bubbles to follow, stones to cross, stories to dance through. Imagination gives movement a purpose and makes practice feel like play.
